Chances are, "doing it" isn't topping your to-do list these days — in fact, it might not even make your top ten. While there are some exceptions, most women lose that loving feeling during the postpartum period and beyond for a variety of reasons. First, as you already suspect — postpartum sex can be more pain than pleasure, especially if you've delivered vaginally but surprisingly, even if you labored and then had a C-section. After all, your vagina has just been stretched to its earthly limits , possibly torn or surgically cut , and sutured to boot — leaving you too sore to sit, never mind contemplate sex.

Postdelivery hormonal changes may make vaginal tissue thinner and more sensitive. However, most doctors recommend women wait four to six weeks following a vaginal delivery. After your doctor has given you the all clear to resume sexual activities, you may still need to take things slowly.

Context: Preadolescent friendships and early teenage dating relationships have implications for adolescent sexual initiation that may differ by race and gender. Methods: Data on participants in the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth and their children are used to profile friendship and dating patterns among a sample of youth born to relatively young mothers. Logistic regression analyses examine whether these patterns predict early sexual initiation, and whether there are differences associated with gender and race. Results: As youth moved from late childhood to mid-adolescence, they shifted from having almost exclusively same-sex, same-grade friends to having more relationships with persons who are of the opposite sex and older.
